June 2025 Counsellor Connections: Navigating Transitions

Hello BCHS Roadrunners and Families,
June is here and with it comes all the emotions like excitement, nervousness, relief, and a little bit of “what now?” Whether you're finishing your last year or planning to return in the fall, this time of year brings change and reflection. As your Student Advocacy Counsellor, I want to share some encouragement, practical tips, and local support to help you take care of yourself over the summer.
For Our Graduating Roadrunners
Congratulations to the Class of 2025 Roadrunners! You’ve made it through high school, and that is something to be proud of!! The next part of your journey may feel exciting, confusing, or even overwhelming. That is completely normal.
Here are a few things to remember:
- You don’t need to have everything figured out right now. Adulthood is a process and you’re allowed to take it one step at a time.
- Stay connected to the people who support you. Whether that’s friends, family, or mentors, you are not meant to do life alone.
- Focus on small goals. Learning how to cook, build a budget, or manage your time is all part of gaining independence.
- Make time for self-care. Prioritize sleep, movement, balanced meals, and moments that bring you peace.
For Students Returning in the Fall
To our returning Roadrunners, summer is your time to reset. Rest is productive and reflection builds growth.
Here are some ways to make the most of your summer break:
- Reflect on the past school year. What are you proud of? What do you want to improve on?
- Try something new. Take on a small job, join a summer activity, or volunteer in the community.
- Keep your brain active. Read, journal, be creative, or explore a topic that interests you.
- Make rest a priority. Give your mind and body time to recharge so you come back in September ready to go.
For Parents and Caregivers
Transitions affect the whole family. Whether your teen is graduating or returning to school in the fall, your support plays a huge role.
Here are some helpful reminders:
- Keep the lines of communication open. Ask what your teen is feeling and listen with curiosity instead of pressure.
- Celebrate small moments of growth. Progress can look like trying again, being honest, or making a hard choice.
- Encourage mental wellness. Remind them that asking for help is a strength and that support is available even outside of school.
Self-Care for Summer
Taking care of your mental health over the summer matters. Here are a few ways to do that:
- Spend time outdoors and soak up fresh air and sunshine
- Move your body through walking, stretching, biking, or dancing
- Keep a sleep routine that helps you feel rested and alert
- Journal or talk to someone you trust when things feel overwhelming
- Make time for fun and creativity without pressure or expectations. Click here for a Summer Bucket List to track your fun summer!

Final Thoughts
Whether you are stepping into the world as a graduate or just ready to close the books for summer, remember this:
You are still growing, even when you feel uncertain.
You are strong enough to handle what comes next;
And you are never alone, no matter how quiet life may feel sometimes.
Take care of yourself this summer. You matter and your story is still unfolding.
